PLEASE. I got a sony evi-d30. I am trying to install it the person at the electronic store told me to try s PC to TV Game Box but when I looked at the instructions you gave previously and look at this it seems like the guy sold me the wrong thing and that I just need a cord that has the round end with the pointy things with the square end with the wholes that plug into my computer and and usb cable or do I need a usb cable since it has a power supply also not to ask to many questions but do I need a mic now to set up seperate the old one was built into my camera.

You will need a capture card for the evi-d30 to connect it to the pc to get video. What type of pc are you using ? eg. a laptop or desktop ?

If a laptop you will want to go for a usb based capture card, like the one in this link (dazzle DVD Recorder)

If a desktop I would go with Osprey capture card (if you have a free slot in the pc and don't mind opening it up).

Viewcast make the osprey cards , click products and choose one that suits your needs, osprey 210 is a nice card to think about if it will go into your desktop.

Also you will need a microphone to get sound a usb mic will be good or a standard analogue one if you have a mic in area on your computer.

Let me know little more about your computer too, will help me give you better advice. Eg..

1. type of computer and model number if you know it.

2. Windows version you use , xp, vista, windows 7..

Thank you so much for getting back to me and thank you :-P for the bump.
I got the Dazzle today when I returned the pc to tv thing. I will try to hook it up. I have a Sony Vaio Notebook with windows xp. Do I need to remove the logitech program like you had advised earlier ( that is the camera I used prior to getting this one)? Thank you again and will look for your answer and will let you know if I get it working or not. ~1 Cali

Ok Update. It is recognizing the camera it moves and flirt's broadcast system accepts it as broadcastable (no sure that's a real word but we will go with it) however when it reads the camera there is not an image (it is a black screen). Hope I am making sense so is the camera broken (it moves and does all that) or does the operator (me) need to be fixed? I still have the logitech software on the computer is that the problem? I only have the "svideo" cord I do not have a "video out" cord running so is that where the problem lies? Also while we are on the subject of cords....I see that there is an "audio" out cord do I need that one too or can I just plug in a mic to the mic area on the back of the camera or can I just make it even easier and use the mic on the Sony Vaio? If the Dazzle is installed and recognized and able to give you a videobox with a blackscreen my bet would be Purgs response #8 on the first reply post; Dazzle's always want to use the composite video feed straight from the store, since you don't have that plugged in because you're using S-Video instead make sure that setting has been changed.

I just looked up a picture of the back of the evi30 to see, and the "video" you're seeing without a cable is for composite, you are using s-video instead so that is not a problem.

For audio I know you have at least 3 options that will work: The vaio's built in mic, a mic that would be plugged into the laptop with a standard cable (usually right next to the headphones, it's the same plug), or a USB mic.

I'm not familiar with highend cams, but plugging the mic into the camera with the camera going to the dazzle sounds like it probably wouldn't work, since the dazzle is only picking up video from the camera. (Theoretically it could be done, but you'd need an extra cable to go from audio out of the camera to the dazzle)

Oh and the dazzle can display video without audio cables plugged in. (however most if not all composite/s-video devices cannot do sound without video)

The easy fix for this is that dazzle setting being properly placed to s-video instead of composite, so hopefully that is it. Let me know if this was helpful :thumbsup

Hey invisa thanks for replying, you had all the bases covered I see

You can buy a mic and add it to the camera and then connect the audio out cable from the camera to the dazzle to get sound, or as invisa said use the mic in the laptop or buy an external mic like a usb one or a standard 3.5mm jack type to plug into the pc if it has a mic in.

Purg its Gena Gold I have having a polar melt down can you help me I used to use my integrated dell laptop cam and in december I got the Sony EVI D-30 and today I decided to switch my cams and do a bath show and now I cant switch back to my Sony from the lap top wont even give me an option for it when I log in...I went into settings and switched to dazzle and nothing...nothing Please help I would greatly appreciate it hunny..

Hi Gena,

can you tell me a little more about your laptop, model, brand and what operating system you are using also have you tried reinstalling the dazzle drivers, performer application and Flash player ?

If you have reinstalled all the drivers for the dazzle, performer application and Flash player and still no joy, you can go into control panel > system > Hardware TAB > Device manager. When you are there check if it sees the Dazzle, it can be under imaging devices or the sound, video and game controllers. Just check if there is no yellow "!" next to it or any other device in the device manager. If there is a yellow "!" there could be a problem with the hardware or the drivers not working right. Also if you see the laptop camera there too right click it as a test and select "disable" and restart the system and see if the system now sees the Dazzle.

Other things you can check is on the performer application preview window you can right click it and and select settings , this is the flash player settings in there is a option to select the camera too or the capture device "being the dazzle or the internal laptop camera", click the tab that looks like a web cam there and try the drop down list to see if the dazzle is seen there too and if it is there select it and do the same for the audio tab "mic tab" and select the Dazzle audio if you are using that or the mic you use.

Try all that 1st and see what happens dear, if nothing shout back and give me all the info above and what you have done trying to get it to work.

Also you may want to try the latest drivers for the dazzle from their site

Check which Dazzle recorder model you have there is 2 Dazzle* DVC100 (DVD Recorder) and Dazzle* DVC101 (DVD Recorder) and download the right one for your operating system.

Also try the Dazzle in another USB port on the laptop, could be you are using it on a USB port that is not powered or may have gone wrong. Check in the Device Manager too under the USB area to see if there is a yellow "!" there or some error it states, also check when its plugged into the usb if you can click the available USB ports in device manager and see if it sees the Dazzle connected to one of the USB ports/hubs.

I tried EVERYTHING last night uninstalled all applications even reset my date on computer it was what I thought it was and my studio needed to unblock my settings so I could switch cams ughhh thank you for your quick reply I really do appreciate it very much I am so glad someone knows how to do this computer stuff cause for f's sake I dont lol...

One to add in the future as a check is studios locking models out of the important settings for their hardware grrr... (you would think it would flash up you need a higher level to change a setting or totally remove that so was obvious you need an admin level to fix it)..

Hey there Purg!! After reading through most of what you have posted to help everyone, I am hoping maybe you might be able to help me. I got my sony to work, even on the site. BUT!! It's distorted. I read that it it probably because my laptop is a 64 bit, instead of 32 bit. I am using the dazzle. I am wondering if there is anyway to correct this? Will using a different capture card work? Or is there a way to get what I have ot work without being distorted?
