With adobe announcing its no longer supporting flash for android , does flirt have any plans to start using html5? As apple haven't supported it , it seems flirt are missing out on potential customers who are unable to access the site due to lack of flash support, and it would provide current customers who currently have older pc's but are thinking of upgrading to tablets to still remain customers afterwards. thanks
Short answer, yes.
We are actively working on non-Flash implementations of our service. The first foundational change happened late last year when we upgraded many of the video streams to "HD". The second foundational change will happen over the next few weeks when we upgrade our broadcasting software and improve the video yet again. These moves will position our video encoding and delivery to be compatible with non-Flash implementations.
Over the summer we upgraded both the Daily VOD assets within the VIP members area and more recently (still to launch) the bio videos to a new video/audio codec that is compatible with HTML5 playback on convergence devices like tablets. Personally I have an iPad and the videos in the Daily VOD area work great!
The next leg is already in development; developing a chat experience that works with HTML5 and maintains security. Not a simple task as much of the HTML5 specification was designed to be "open".
Our internal roadmap has both Flash and HTML5 living side-by-side for some time. The device used will dictate which method of communication is used. It's too early for me to give launch dates but I can tell you that we're actively working on it each and every day.
